The Association of Community Information Centres in Ontario (InformOntario) is an umbrella organization representing more than 60 Community Information Centres and associated Information and Referral Providers around the province of Ontario, and in other parts of Canada. The Association has a vision that everyone in Ontario should have equitable access to human services information. Our mission statement as an association is to strengthen and enhance Community Information Centres in Ontario by providing them with leadership in the areas of standards, accreditation, marketing, development and information technology. To this end, the association has established a process of accreditation of Community Information Centres with common standards of technology and service delivery.
The Association assists the centres by developing Name and Subject Authorities for database management, standards for statistical data gathering and standards for management of information centres. It encourages professional development through annual conferences and workshops, supports local fundraising efforts and provides promotional and membership information through various publications. The Association, through a Trillium Foundation Grant in 1988-89, developed and implemented "Online Ontario" - an automated network for data collection and sharing among the centres and this continues to be one of the most advanced information and referral networks in Canada. The Association is an incorporated, non-profit, charitable organization managed and operated by volunteers, including a Board of Directors elected from representatives of member centres and the community.
